NIHR Research grants

The HTA programme funds research about the clinical and cost-effectiveness and broader impact of NHS healthcare treatments and tests.

Invention for Innovation (i4i)

Policy Research Programme (PRP)
The PRP grants funds research to enable evidence-informed policy making in health and social care.

Programme Development Grants are available to carry out targeted preparatory work to strengthen a future full Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR).

Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR)
The PGfAR programme funds collaborative, multidisciplinary programmes of applied research to solve health and social care challenges.

Public Health Research (PHR)
The PHR programme funds research to generate evidence to inform the delivery of non-NHS interventions to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health.

Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB)
The RfPB programme funds health, public health and social care research to improve the lives of people with health and care needs.

Health & Care Research Wales Research grants

Health research grant
These projects will provide robust evidence to support the development or appraisal of new treatments, interventions, service organisation and delivery innovations or other activities designed to improve the health and wellbeing of the Welsh population.

Research for patient and public benefit
The Research for Patient and Public Benefit (RfPPB) scheme supports capacity and capability building in NHS Wales (including Public Health Wales) by funding research related to the day-to-day practice of the health service, including integrated health and social care practice, and associated patient and public benefit.

Wellcome Trust

Early-Career Awards
This scheme provides funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity. Through innovative projects, they will deliver shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health and wellbeing. By the end of the award, they will be ready to lead their own independent research programme.

Academy of Medical Sciences

Starter grants for clinical lecturers
