Health Education and Improvement Wales
Wales Clinical Academic Track Fellowship
The Wales Clinical Academic Track (WCAT) fellowship programme offers training in academic medicine and dentistry. Each WCAT Fellowship provides training from entry to CCT and includes a salary funded 3 years PhD Training Fellowship and a period of clinical training with protected academic time (0.2 WTE) in the clinical training years.

NIHR Fellowships
Pre-doctoral Fellowship
This Fellowship is aimed at pre-doctoral level and aimed at giving people the necessary skills and experience required to undertake a PhD.

Doctoral Research Fellowship
This Fellowship supports individuals to undertake a PhD in an area of NIHR research. Doctoral Fellowships are 3 years WTE in duration and may be taken up on a part time basis of between 50 and 100% WTE. Applicants from clinical or social care practice are able to include up to 20% clinical/practice time as part of the Fellowship, to ensure the maintenance of their clinical/practice competence whilst undertaking the Fellowship.

Advanced Fellowship
This is a post-doctoral Fellowship and aimed at anyone with a PhD who hasn’t yet been awarded a chair. Whether you are someone who has recently been or about to be awarded a PhD, or someone with several years of post-doctoral experience you will be eligible to apply for an Advanced Fellowship.

Development and Skills Enhancement Award
The Development and Skills Enhancement Award (DSE) provides a maximum of 1 year of funding for post-doctoral NIHR Academy Members to gain skills and experience for the next phase of their research career. Upcoming calls: January, May, and September annually

NHS Research Time Award
The scheme is open to staff in NHS Wales, or staff contracted to NHS Wales (such as doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and clinical scientists) in primary, secondary or community care or public health. It aims to build research capacity and capability in the NHS by offering staff the opportunity to apply for protected time to engage in research activity.

Wellcome Trust Early-Career Awards
Wellcome Early-Career Awards
This scheme provides funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity. By the end of the award, they will be ready to lead their own independent research programme.

Academy of Medical Sciences
Clinician Scientist Fellowships
These fellowships provide five years' salary and consumables to enable talented clinicians to pursue academic research alongside their clinical practice in order to make long-term improvements in healthcare.
